The cash register can ring again…
To mark the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the “Wüstenrot” head office in Salzburg, the building was fundamentally renovated. After only nine months of building work during which the daily office routine was able to continue as normal, the “Wüstenrot” head office presented itself in a new gown from SORST expanded metal elements. The first distinguishing impression for the observer is created by the material of the transparent façade cladding and the colours of the surfaces. The expanded metal elements which possess, due to a polyspectral metal finishing process, a dirt-repellent surface, were supplied by SORST Streckmetall. Thanks to the expanded metal, the visual appearance of the building alters like a chameleon according to the light incidence and intensity. The modularly structured system from manoeuvrable solar protection elements with newly developed movement mechanisms allows an individually adjustable light and shade control on the south and west façades. The expanded metal façade on the south-east side of the building, more than 50m long and up to 14m high, is a freestanding structure with two single supports and forms an imposing and superbly executed feature. More than 1000 circular pipes were folded and bent to form the supporting structure onto which T-sections from stainless steel were welded, which in turn became bearers for riveted and pigmented stainless steel expanded metal elements.
